General Observations on the Economy in the Midst of a Crisis with Dr. Jim Doti

Today, the International Executive Council (IEC) web series featured my good friend and mentor, Dr James Doti, economist and President Emeritus of Chapman University. Dr. Doti provided valuable insights on the economy, discussed the stimulus plan, and economic recovery indicators, with IEC members and guests

The discussion began with thoughts on the recovery process and how and when surviving businesses will re-open. Despite the overall US economy shrinking 4.8% in the first quarter of 2020, Dr. Doti is confidant the economy will start to recover in Q-3 & Q-4 2020. He also shared his thoughts on the impact the pandemic has had on SoCal small businesses and commercial real estate, and the role vaccine development will play in consumer confidence, and overall health and employee safety. He chimed in on how certain business sectors will iterate or fail and some of the exciting opportunities and new businesses that will rise from the ashes. The conversation commenced with practical advice for small business owners, landlords, and investors.
