Interview with Honorable Will O’Neill, Mayor of Newport Beach – “Leading a City Through Pandemic, Protest and Change”
By Sinan Kanatsiz
Today’s powerful International Executive Council (IEC) event featured Newport Beach Mayor, Will O’Neill, a Stanford-educated attorney and small businessman who has served the City for five years on the Newport Beach Finance Committee (currently Chair). As a California native, he received his BA from Stanford University where he lettered on the track and field team. He then received his JD from U.C. Hastings College of the Law.
We had a dynamic, real-time exchange around the Mayor’s platform and vision for the city, as well as the pandemic and impact it has had on employers and return-to-work protocols being implemented within his city. Further, we spoke at length about recent protests across the nation and his attention to security, law enforcement and keeping Newport Beach protected during this time.
After the discussion and Q&A, IEC members shared needs and opportunities between one another. Access to civic leadership and helping each other in challenging times, speaks volumes to me and our organization.
